About us
We are pleased to announce the launch of a dedicated community website, the “COMPASS” (an acronym for COmmunity Mental health Platform: Accelerating Support Services). This initiative supports the social implementation of the “Regional Framework for the Future of Mental Health in the Western Pacific (2023-2030),” which outlines a vision to achieve optimal mental health and well-being throughout the Western Pacific Region. The framework emphasizes social solidarity as its cornerstone and aims to establish a transformative environment conducive to the universal promotion of mental health.
To achieve this vision, the framework urges Member States of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Asian countries and all health professionals and stakeholders to recalibrate the mental health agenda and support systems and ensure that mental health considerations are seamlessly integrated into various daily environments and experiences.
The COMPASS project website is designed to act as a central hub for the dissemination of exemplary mental health practices across Asian countries. It highlights current implementations, articulates challenges, and provides strategic solutions aimed at addressing these issues. The shared insights are expected to significantly contribute to the improvement and expansion of mental health care systems in local and regional communities across Asia and beyond. This initiative also seeks to enhance mental health at individual, regional, and national levels.
Developed and maintained by the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Center for Neurology and Psychiatry in Japan, this platform operates in collaboration with the World Health Organization, ensuring that it serves as a valuable resource for medical professionals throughout Asia.
